Bride builds her own wedding car

A bride from Wiltshire was so determined to have her dream wedding car when she got married, that she rolled up her sleeves and built it herself.

26-year-old Megan Ashton started work on her classic car renovation project 6 years ago, buying a battered 1969 VW Beetle for £200 and taking it apart bit by bit. However it wasn’t until Megan’s boyfriend, Rob, got down on one knee two years ago, that the pressure was suddenly on to get the car finished so she could ride to her wedding in the back of her dream car.

Restoring the classic car came second nature to Royal Navy engineer Megan as she’s grown up surrounded by motors as her father runs his own garage. After 6 years work creating the Porsche replica, the only original part of the car Megan started with is the chasis, with everything from the engine to the speedometer being restored and changed to create the stunning classic car replica.

The bride-to-be admitted that wedding planning got in the way of her restoration project, with trips to bridal shops taking up the spare time she should have spent working on her car. The 26-year-old even went without girly birthday and Christmas presents for several years, asking her parents to buy her parts for her car as her gift.

However all of the hard work certainly paid off, and the bride was able to arrive in her very special hand built wedding car on her special day. The other good news is that the car which cost Megan £200 6 years ago is now worth £25,000!
