Bride and groom’s car stolen from outside their Bermuda reception venue

The wedding night of newlyweds Melanise Ashton and Matthew Hocking got off to a faltering start when the bride and groom prepared to drive off to a yacht where they planned to spend the rest of their night, only to find the jeep had been stolen.

The couple had tied the knot and celebrated their wedding at the bride’s parents home, The Granaway Guest House in Bermuda, however their happy day was ruined when they attempted to leave the venue and drive to a nearby luxury yacht where they were planning to spend their wedding night.

It’s believed the jeep was stolen around 1:30am, moments after the police who had been paid to direct traffic around the wedding venue had left the scene, and just after the father of the bride had put the couple’s overnight luggage in the vehicle.

A taxi driver who was transporting some of the wedding guests spotted someone looking suspicious, and reported it to the police who were able to use the lead to track down the culprit. A 21-year-old man was later arrested and found with the keys to the bride and groom’s jeep in his pocket.

The wedding car was found abandoned and in need of repair as it had been involved in an accident.

The bride and groom didn’t make it to their yacht until 4:30am as they spent the night answering questions from police – hardly the wedding night they had expected.
